The gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua and the gang rape of another minor in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, has left the country in shock. People are taking to social media to make their displeasure very evident.

We spoke to some TV actors who shared their views on the same and what they feel should be the punishment for such heinous crimes.

Shashank Vyas

The only solution is capital punishment. It's quite questionable and strange to me that every Indian has been asking for capital punishment to be given to rapists, but the government is not taking this seriously. Why? What is stopping them?

Nirbhay Wadhwa

Even after the Nirbhaya verdict, nothing has changed. Rape is still an issue. The main reason is the mentality of people. The problem lies in the mentality of our Indian society where a woman is considered inferior to a man. They think that a man has the right to rule over her body, mind, and soul. Rape is indeed a heinous crime and unfortunately, it is increasing in India at a faster rate. In a country where females are worshiped in the form of goddess-like Maa Durga, Maa Kali and Maa Saraswati.. it is also a country where they are raped and brutally molested. It's a serious threat. Every day a lot of girls are getting raped in every corner of our country. The government and citizens should take this issue seriously and take some action against it as soon as possible. We need an efficient and effective law enforcement system that earns the trust of the common man. India really needs a change in society's perception of women, a change that involves viewing women as equal to men, not just as a sex object. Other reasons like lack of proper police security and less severe punishments for rape are also true and equally saddening. The rapists in such cases are not mentally normal so they have no right to live in the society. They should undergo castration and even after that, they should be imprisoned for a long term.

Ssharad Malhotra

We need Saudi Arabian laws in India. No mercy should be given to a rapist, be it minor as well! The laws in our country are very lenient and slow paced. If we want a safer tomorrow, especially for women, action needs to be taken from this very moment. Education is the key to all our problems. People need to be educated, that is the only way they will learn to respect women.

Rohit Purohit

It's unfortunate and shameful for all of us as a country. It makes me furious and I am still not able to understand what comes to their mind before doing such an inhuman thing, that too with an eight-year-old child. Their punishment should be an example for all the others. It's all about education. Our government should run a door-to-door campaign to educate people about the safety and consequences of this inhuman crime, like they go to ask for votes.

Rohit Bhardwaj

Hang them! Capital punishment is the only solution to this heinous crime. It needs to stop. Every time we hear of a brutal rape case, there is a lot of protest and upheaval in the country. Sadly, it dies down, till the next rape happens. We need to punish these rapists by hanging them.

Aadesh Chaudhry

Punishment should be shooting at sight. There is no humanity left, people have become so selfish that they think only about themselves. Unless and until something happens to them, they don't wake up. But it's important to realise that if today it can happen to an unknown girl who you don't know, tomorrow, it can happen to your daughter or your wife as well. The solution is everybody understands this fact and everybody stands together as one and punishes that person.

Sourabh Raaj Jain

I am not the lawmaker and neither an expert on knowing the various insane inhuman reasons on why such acts even happen. But as a human, as a citizen and as a father to a daughter, I strongly feel the need to have some strong law against such evils. The process should be fast, transparent and completely apolitical.

Jasmin Bhasin

I am very hurt and furious since the time I have read all this. I am so disappointed knowing just that humanity is on the verge of extinction. This planet is no more a place for humans to live. I think now our country really needs to take a step and decide that if anyone attempts or commits such a crime, he will be sentenced to death. Such acts are horrendous, and even when I think of it, I get goosebumps. Our country needs very strict punishment for this because now I don't think anybody is going to sit quietly. Tomorrow, it could be me or my daughter or my sister. It's high time our ministers or The President does something!

Vineet Raina

In our country people and even leaders think that if a girl wears short dresses or even jeans, she is inviting trouble and rape. This thought itself is disgusting. In my opinion, the only solution to this problem is harsh laws against such crimes, like in other countries that have lowest or 0% rapes. The laws should be such that once proved in the court of law, the accused should be sentenced to death. People should be so scared that they shouldn't even think about committing such a crime. My heart goes out to Asifa, Nirbhaya, Unnao and thousands of women, girls and children who are raped, molested and murdered every day in our country. I feel disappointed to be a citizen of a country where Goddesses are worshiped, but women are raped and murdered. I feel ashamed and heartbroken. Rape is murdering the soul of a human being, so it is equivalent to murder. I appeal for death penalty to be sentenced to these rapists.

Sandeep Anand

Rape is not about religion, it's about having no humanity. Sadly, our country has become a mere puppet to religious sentiments, to government propaganda based on caste and religion. Nothing in India matters more than religion, there is no humanity or sanity. It is sad and disturbing. The only punishment for such heinous crimes is death. This is happening because of the lack of humanity in our country. We demean our women, hence rape culture has prevailed in our country. There is a lack of empathy, emotions, and respect for humanity. Until and unless this rape culture is ripped out of the country's heart, we would keep on seeing our country and society die a slow and horrible death.

Well, the nation's anger is completely justified, isn't it?

I agree with Nirbhay Wadhwa and Vineet Raina!!!

And Ssharad is not talking sense!!!In Saudi Arabia rape is legal and they actually jail the victim!!!So let us not talk of Saudi Arabia!!!!

As for this rape, why the hell is the name and picture of the victim out?? When it is Nirbhaya we never knew the religion, cast or name of the victim and still we protested!!!But this time it is disgustingly made into a religion issue and lies are spread!!!

Let us also talk about the rape in UP, Surat and Assam and not just talk of this one rape!!!!It undermines the others!!!

Every woman is important and we should be outraged at every rape!!!
