Bye Bye Beijing!

Heavenly drums, silver bell dancers, light wheels and flying men took center stage at the Closing ceremony of Olympics. Let's revisit the Olympics once again and its high points!

          Bye Bye...Beijing

 Citius, altius, fortius

China has emerged as the Sporting Super Power with maximum number of Golds ever in Olympics history. Starting with  the powerful display of fireworks to flawless hosting of games, China has proven their dominance with this sporting extravaganza in utmost finesse and style! Now London has to go a step ahead in 2012 ti match the euphoria created in Beijing. The highs of this Olympics has been the power-packed performances of two sporting superstars Michael Phelps the "Aqua Gladiator" and Usain "Lightning" Bolt who have created Olympic history!

From the Indian point of view, this Olympics is very special and the most successful ever! We got our first individual Olympic Gold and to add to the feather in the cap, came 2 Bronze medals.
Jay Bhanushali:

Your Favorite player from Beijing Olympics: Abhinav Bindra

This is the most successful Olympics for India ever, with three individual medals. Did you expect this from Indian Contingent?: Actually I expected bronze but not gold. However, after getting the first gold it was felt that more and more participants from India were putting their best, so I was expecting some more.

Which feat do you rank higher Michael Phelps-8 Gold, Usain Bolt -record in 100 and 200 meters or Abhinav Bindra's Gold in shooting and why?: Abhinav Bindra. Actually, I am being biased because he is from our country.

What needs to done in India, for a sporting culture to be born and to think beyond Cricket?: I think sponsorship will be a good thing and then giving them a glamor-touch like working in ad-films will bring popularity to them, which can initiate young generation to think beyond cricket as a sport.

Had you ever heard of Akhil Kumar, Vijendra Kumar or Sushil Kumar before this Olympics?: No, I didn't know them before.

Your Favorite player from Beijing Olympics: Abhinav Bindra

This is the most successful Olympics for India ever, with three individual medals. Did you expect this from Indian Contingent?: Yes, but I think after accomplishing this feat, India is capable of winning more.

Which feat do you rank higher Michael Phelps-8 Gold, Usain Bolt -record in 100 and 200 meters or Abhinav Bindra's Gold in shooting and why?: Abhinav Bindra  ofcource, but all three are equally important as one needs guts to go there and aim for perfection.

What needs to done in India, for a sporting culture to be born and to think beyond Cricket?: We are already into many sports as of now, when compared to the olden time.  So I think we are surely looking beyond Cricket in India..

Had you ever heard of Akhil Kumar, Vijendra Kumar or Sushil Kumar before this Olympics?: I had known them, but now they are known internationally. We should ask this to the foreigners, whether they know them or not, we knowing them is obvious now.

Manish Raisinghania:

Your Favorite player from Beijing Olympics: Vijendra Kumar because I myself belong to marshal arts.

This is the most successful Olympics for India ever, with three individual medals. Did you expect this from Indian Contingent?: I actually expected way more than this, as there is lot of talent in India. The only thing is that they don't get a chance to promote it internationally on a world platform. I was myself into Karate and have got into National Championship, but there was no support to move a step ahead. Cricket always got more importance.

Which feat do you rank higher Michael Phelps-8 Gold, Usain Bolt -record in 100 and 200 meters or Abhinav Bindra's Gold in shooting and why?: Michael Phelps, the way he went ahead and won 8 Gold medals. He was phenomenal throughout the Olympics.

What needs to done in India, for a sporting culture to be born and to think beyond Cricket?: Eradicate politics, let the politics be limited only to Parliament. People should come forward and support such sports. I myself promote such sports and do not want any upcoming talent to face the situation I went thro'.

Had you ever heard of Akhil Kumar, Vijendra Kumar or Sushil Kumar before this Olympics?: Never. I just had an idea about it as I read it in newspapers.

Ankur Nayyar:

Your Favorite player from Beijing Olympics: Actually I am not a person who is for Olympics but I like Akhil Kumar -the aggression, the devil ness that is there when he fights is very good!

This is the most successful Olympics for India ever, with three individual medals. Did you expect this from Indian Contingent? :  No, I never thought so, but it has been great.  We have won three medals, and winning in Olympics is a great achievement which has opened  new avenues.

Which feat do you rank higher Michael Phelps-8 Gold, Usain Bolt -record in 100 and 200 meters or Abhinav Bindra's Gold in shooting and why?: I don't remember her name, but she was very hot and good looking. She won in swimming or something; maybe I am getting biased just because she is a female. Of course, Abhinav Bindra, hats off to him as he has done so much for the country.

What needs to done in India, for a sporting culture to be born and to think beyond Cricket?:   Well I do not think so we can do much about it because every country has some or the other favorite sports like baseball in U.S, Canada has football, similarly here its cricket. We cannot force anyone to like a particular sport. In order to promote other sports there should be new avenues and proper facilities so that anyone who has got talent doesn't get unnoticed.

Had you ever heard of Akhil Kumar, Vijendra Kumar or Sushil Kumar before this Olympics?: No I have never heard their name before.

Yash Tonk:

Your Favorite player from Beijing Olympics: Abhinav Bindra, Vijendra Kumar, Akhil Kumar.

This is the most successful Olympics for India ever, with three individual medals. Did you expect this from Indian Contingent? :  Not exactly.

Which feat do you rank higher Michael Phelps-8 Gold, Usain Bolt -record in 100 and 200 meters or Abhinav Bindra's Gold in shooting and why?: Abhinav Bindra because he is an Indian and it is a great achievement. He has done India proud , and I love my country and its people.

What needs to done in India, for a sporting culture to be born and to think beyond Cricket?:  It should be well sponsored, the players should be paid better, new openings and avenues must be given to those who have inclination towards such sports. So if anyone wants to take it as a career they can do well and their talent does not go waste.

Had you ever heard of Akhil Kumar, Vijendra Kumar or Sushil Kumar before this Olympics?:  No I had not heard their names before..

I agree exactly with what Manish said, there is too much importance being given to cricket and less to everything else.. India has so much talent in sports like hockey, football, now also boxing and shooting, etc, but there is no one to sponsor.... hope our medals this time opened the eyes of many and hope to see participation from India in the 100+ at 2012!
