The ace director and the master of psychological thrillers, Quintin Tarantino has been showing us fairy tales since his inception in Hollywood. The director’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been chained with controversy as Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Emery Lee is upset with the portrayal of her father in the film.

Shannon has criticized Quintin which has been in total contradiction to the achievements the film has already conquered. She also mentioned about being ‘disheartened’ to see how the director failed to acknowledge Bruce Lee’s art and manifest him as “an arrogant a**hole who was full of hot air”.

The film sketches the life of TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. Apart from it, Quintin’s latest release frames the story of stuntmen in Hollywood and their intricate life full of challenges.

However, as seen in the film’s trailer, Lee challenges Brad Pitt’s stuntman character Cliff Booth to an on-set fight after Booth laughs and brags that his hands are considered “lethal weapons”.

The 50-year-old actress argued that, rather than being arrogant on Hollywood sets, her father had to work harder and was far more conscientious. She also struggled to express how Bruce Lee had to overcome the racial prejudices - as Asian-American in the late 1960s. The issues of preconceived notion and the setbacks he faced during his peak time in Hollywood is a testimony of the fact that Lee had to work harder than Booth.

Furthermore, according to the reports in Yahoo, Lee added, “I understand that the two characters are antiheroes and this is sort of like a rage fantasy of what would happen… and they’re portraying a period of time that clearly had a lot of racism and exclusion.”

Lee added: “I understand they want to make the Brad Pitt character this super bad-ass who could beat up Bruce Lee. But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive.”
