Booo... sabki Phategi

Horror-Comedies are currently trending in India and one of the most popular Indian online streaming platforms, ALT Balaji has also joined the bandwagon with it’s latest release, Booo Sabki Phategi. The series revolves around seven friends who happen to go to a haunted resort where they decide to spend four days. Starring Tusshar Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat, Sanjay Mishra, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda in lead roles, the series tries to explore tragicomedy.

Plot:

The series starts with a couple entering a luxurious resort to celebrate their first night, but little do they know that it will turn out to be their last night. The couple encounters a ‘hand’ that brutally kills them. Without giving us an insight as to why they were killed, we are introduced to a group of friends played by Krushna, Kiku, Shefali, Sakshi, Vipul, Shweta and Anil who decide to vacay in the same resort, which they think is owned by their childhood friend Manav (Tusshar Kapoor). When they reach the place they meet Nainsukh (Sanjay Mishra), an old blind man who is the caretaker of the resort.

Manav gives them a tour of the resort and also tells them that nobody comes there as it is rumored to be haunted. Not just that, Manav behaves a little suspicious and weird as he stops them from entering a store room. As soon as the clock ticks 12, we witness that spooky things start happening in the resort and before we realize, all the characters apart from Krushna and Kiku start dying and becoming zombies. Soon, the suspense reveals and we know it was just a prank played by all of them to spook them out.

Amidst all the chaos, we are introduced to Haseena (Mallika Sherawat), a seductive ghost who is trying to communicate to people. Why is she trying to communicate, what is the suspense that follows is what the series is all about.

Performances:

Tusshar Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat definitely steal the show in their debut digital project. Though we liked him more in the mysterious and serious scenes more than the comedy scenes. Mallika spreads her usual charm in all the scenes she is in. While Krushna and Kiku seemed to overdo their parts, veteran actor Sanjay Mishra seemed underused. The rest of the supporting cast was okay.

Set Design and Background Score:

The set was grand and beautiful and looked perfect for a haunted resort. While the title song was really good, the rest of the background score was a little dull. The background score for comedy scenes were outstanding, they failed to make an impact in the horror scenes.

Special Effects:

The special effects were quite fine as compared to other such shows. VFX can always be better but it was quite doable in matters of the production budget.

Verdict:

If you are the kind of person who looks for logic everywhere, the series is not for you. If you’re someone who enjoys mindless comedies and enjoys a twist of horror in it, that won’t give you sleepless nights, you can go ahead and give it a shot.
