The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has pressed charges against actor Sonu Sood for allegedly converting a six-storey residential building, named Shakti Sagar, on Juhu’s AB Nair Road into a hotel; without receiving permission from the civic body.

The BMC was asked to take cognizance of the offense committed by the actor under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning (MRTP) Act citing unauthorized additions, alteration, and change of user, reported the Times of India.

Meanwhile, the actor has reacted to the same and said that there are “no irregularities” and he also informed of taking permissions for change of user and was only waiting for a clearance from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), said the report.

The Times of India report also quoted officials saying that Sood had moved the city civil court against a notice sent by the BMC in October 2020, but did not get any interim relief.

In the time period of ‘three weeks’, the court offered Sood an opportunity to appeal in the high court. However, the Dabangg actor did not restore the alterations and additions as per the approved plan, informed the BMC official.

The Mumbai civic body has therefore filed a police complaint to register an FIR under the MRTP Act, the official added.

On the other hand, while Sood spoke about the issue in his interaction with Times of India, the actor stated that he has “already taken approval for change of user from BMC. It was subject to the approval of MCZMA. The permission has not come due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are no irregularities.”

Sood also mentioned that the hotel had been used to house COVID-19 warriors during the pandemic.

If permissions don't come, I will restore it back to a residential structure. I am appealing against the BMC's complaint in the Bombay HC.

The police were carrying out a preliminary investigation and would later register an FIR, said DCP Abhishek Trimukhe, Zone 9.
