Bhumi Pednekar defends Pati Patni Aur Woh, says the film is not sexist

The remake of BR Chopra's classic 1978 film Pati Patni Aur Woh stars Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in lead roles. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film is a humorous take on the subject of extra marital affair in the film.

While Kartik plays Chintu Tyagi with Bhumi Pednekar as his hot wife, Ananya adds the ‘woh wala tadka’. The trailer has been receiving a mixed response from the audience as some laud the comic timing and performances, others are disappointed with Kartik’s sexist monologue referring to marital rape.

Kartik’s rant against women in his upcoming film Pati Patni Aur Woh has irked many and netizens have mercilessly shamed the actor on social media. However, the actor’s friend and co-star Bhumi has come to his rescue and stated that the film doesn't endorse outdated attitudes and behaviour toward women.

Defending her film, Bhumi clarifies, "When I read the script, every doubt that I had, flushed out. This film is so much fun. It's a situational comedy but at the same time, it's not frivolous. It's empowering to both the genders. There's nobody who's black and white in real life as well. I think the makers have been very conscious to make sure that they do not turn this into a sexist, baseless film.”

“This is not that at all. I think everybody who's part of this film be it Bhushan sir, Juno or Mudassar sir, I don't think we belong to that school. So, that's what excited me the most about the film. This could go wrong so easily but they have been so sensitive and careful. I think it's a big achievement," the actress further added.

Pati Patni Aur Woh remake will hit theatres on December 6.
