Banjo: Movie Review

Director: Ravi Jadhav;Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri, Dharmesh Yelande and Luke KennyOverall rating: 2.5/5 (Two and a half star out of five)

Baseline of the story: The musicians or we can say the BANJO band from the streets of Mumbai tries to make it big in the music world! Director Ravi Jadhav tells the struggle of small bands who fight odds to earn a living.

Review:

A small Banjo band led by Riteish Deshmukh (Taraat) which includes other members named Grease (Dharmesh Yelande), Vajya (Ram Menon) and Paper (Aditya Kumar) located in the chawls of Mumbai. On the other hand, Taraat also extorts money for a local corporator because he had helped him in his crucial times.

Chris (Nargis Fakhri) is a New York based aspiring singer who wants to participate in an International Music Festival and for that she needed to record two singles! That's where Mikey (Luke Kenny) comes into the picture. Mikey is Chris's friend who tells about the Banjo band in Mumbai which can be useful to record her singles.

Chris lands in Mumbai to search Riteish's Banjo band and from here the story begins.

The movie depicts the conditions of the citizens from the chawls of Mumbai, the hope of the kids living in the slums, the fight for water and fight for survival and money between the local Banjo bands.

What we liked:

The dreams of the Banjo boys. The members of the band has weird dreams and funny too but realistic at the end!

The small jokes by the cast makes sure you laugh during the course of the movie.

Luke Kenny's Marathi dialogues is a cherry on the cake.

The performances from the actors are worth watching.

Screenplay and direction is good, something that is expected from Ravi Jadhav who directed films like Natrang and Balak Palak.

Disappointments:

There is unnecessary addition of songs and it feels like songs are appearing after every 5 minutes though that's not the case.

The music was not something too fab or something top notch as it had expected (owing it's a film based on music), it could have been much better.

The emotional scenes are overloaded and also looks like 'Kitna overacting!'

The biggest disappointment is the length of the movie, towards the end you start feeling that 'If the movie doesn't end in the next five minutes I will leave the theater!'

Overall rating: 2.5/5 (Two and a half star out of five)
