For the past seven years of his career, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has impressed the audience with not only his singing talents but with this versatile acting and movie choices. After delivering his career’s first commercial success Dream Girl, the actor is all set to entertain the audience with Bala alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam.

Yesterday, during the group interviews with the media Ayushmann opened up about the struggles he faced for Bala, doing masala entertainers like Salman Khan, being compared to Ujda Chaman and his love for doing off-beat topics like sperm donation or erectile dysfunction.

While talking the reason behind doing Bala, the 35-year-old actor said, Ab aisa hai ki humne bahut saare topics explore kiye hain which were very far-fetched, like sperm donation, erectile dysfunction lekin yeh ek film hai jo itna common subject hai jo explore nahi kiya tha abhi tak, so I think that’s why it was very unique. Har ek mard almost like 30+, almost 50% of the males, they struggle with that, toh common cheez hai relatable hai so that’s why I chose this story.”

Taking the discussion further he also revealed that Bala was the toughest movie he has done till date. The Article 15 actor had to struggle a lot so that he could fit right into the character of a guy who faces premature balding. Talking about it, Ayushmann shared, “I started losing weight for Dream Girl because I was not looking great with my body as I had to get into lehenga and saree. So I started losing my weight for Dream Girl and further with Bala, as it is a journey from the 20s to 30s, it’s just that when you have hair loss you have to look more mature. So for a 20-year-old, I had to lean further down.”

He even considered going bald for the movie but, “there are different stages in the film, so it was difficult to manage that. My first reaction was ‘I’ll go bald’ but if we are showing different stages, how will we justify that.”

He further went on to share about the prosthetic procedures he had to go through for the film. If compared to his Dream Girl’s get up, Bala was the toughest film of his life, he shared, “I used to take 2 and half hours of prosthetics and shoot under 45 degree Celsius heat of Kanpur and Lucknow, so it was very tough. Dream Girl was easy, I think it was fun. There were like hardly three to four scenes where I had to dress up like a girl, but otherwise, it was just the voice modulations. Bala was, of course, the toughest film of my life. Layers of prosthetics, three layers that to under the sun was very difficult.”

Talking about the ongoing comparison between Bala and Ujda Chaman, he said, “We announced our film first. Our teaser came first and we even finished our shooting first. At the same time, it’s the producers and distributors decision to see what’s the best release date for the film. So I think the 8th of November is the perfect release date for the film.”

Known for his choice of off-beat movie scripts, Ayushmann revealed, “Our country is full of taboos, toh humare desh mein aise koi kami hogi nahi and we are yet two different countries, like urban is so different from rural. We are very progressive sitting in Bombay, in a big city, and suddenly like 70% of our nation which is like primary sector, wahan par log abhi bhi bahut conservative hai toh topics ki kami Kabhi rahegi nahi. Mein aane wale time pe kaafi cheesein hai jo quirky na karun shayad. Once in a while aap quirky role kar sakte hai, per you can’t do that always like Article 15 was not quirky, Andhadhun was different, but yaa I’ll keep looking for topics which are different and also away from my zone.”

While on the same topic, Ayushmann also revealed that he would love to do Masala entertainers like Salman Khan. “I would love to do it. For me, Dream Girl was my most commercial film, as far as the tonality is considered. Dream Girl was in your face, it was slapstick and it was frontbenchers and ushered me to single screens. But given a chance, I would love to do something masala and action, but it has to have some kind of uniqueness. It can’t just be generic,” he concluded
