Ayushmann and Sunny Singh’s Bald Battle; Bala to clash with Ujda Chaman, makers call it Unethical

Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala and Sunny Singh's Ujda Chaman, both revolve around the issue of premature balding in men. Now, with two films based on a similar plotline, it will be nothing less than a battleground on the box office, or to be more precise, a ‘Bald Battle’.

A few days back, the makers of Ujda Chaman had released the trailer of the film, which gives you insight around the life of the protagonist, age 30, suffering from premature baldness. Along with a caption that read, “Takle ki pehli aur asli film,” which literally translates into “First and original film on a bald man,” the makers had taken a sly hit at Ayushmann’s film Bala. Directed by Kumar Mangat, Ujda Chaman was announced to release on October 8, 2019.

To add fuel to the already speculated competition between the two films, the makers of Ayushmann’s film released the trailer of Bala, announcing the film’s release date as October 7, 2019, which is exactly a day before Sunny Singh’s Ujda Chaman.

Bala was earlier being planned for a November 15 release and prior to that, it was slated for November 22. But, seems like the makers did not want to take a chance with two films revolving around the same subject, they preponed the release and moved it a day before the other film.

Reacting to this shrewd move by Bala makers, the director of Ujda Chaman expressed his disappointment and told Spotboye that this was not right and ethical on the part of Maddock films, but he stands by his film and is confident that it will deliver well.

“It is extremely unethical and wrong on Maddock films part to clash with our film. We always were coming on Nov 8. But what can we do now. Let them come. I am sure my film is good,” director Kumar Mangat told Spotboye.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Bala revolves around the life of a man who is balding prematurely and how he copes with the situation. The film also narrates Bala's (played by Ayushmann) relationship with two women played by Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar respectively in the film. The dark comedy is slated to release on 22 November 2019.

On the other hand, Ujda Chaman is based on the life of a Hindi lecturer, suffering from premature balding. After facing several rejections as a prospective groom because of his baldness, Chaman (played by Sunny in the film) hits rock bottom when an astrologer gives him a deadline to find himself a wife or remain a celibate forever.
