Awards for Indian comic artists announced

Mumbai, Sep 8 (IANS) There have been awards for films, television and even music, but now get ready for an awards ceremony to felicitate the comic artists across Bollywood and TV with The BIG Indian Comedy Awards by Reliance Broadcast's Big Live, a section that leverages the energy and experience of live entertainment.

The winners of the awards will be decided by an audience poll and the categories will spread across Hindi feature films and television (fiction and non-fiction).

'Comedy has been an extremely critical peg in storytelling in India, across both Bollywood and television and a serious movie or daily soap is interspersed with comic scenes to bring some relief to high drama and break the monotony of love, romance or revenge,' Rabe T. Iyer, business head, BIG Live, told IANS.

'The last few years has seen comedy as a genre being given a pride of place, with movies and serials pegged on comedy and hence our offering of the BIG Indian Comedy Awards,' he said.

The award ceremony, to be hosted early October will not only feature some stand-up comic acts but will also pay tribute to legendary comedians of yesteryears.
