Avika Gor on Balika Vadhu 2 and comparisons: Was asked the same thing for SSK 2, I would say it is a big risk

Balika Vadhu has truly been a cult show that managed to create waves given the topic that it deals with, narrating the story of a child bride, Anandi. The show is now back with a season 2 and has in fact, been creating quite a buzz ever since the first announcement was made. Avika Gor, who played the role of young Anandi back in 2008, spoke to India Forums about Balika Vadhu 2, what does she think about the comparisons that will be drawn and her return to television.

What goes on in your head when you see the show returning for a season 2? What was the first reaction?

The first reaction was wow, that is a challenge and I hope Colors does justice to it. After that, I was very excited and emotional as well because Balika Vadhu brought a very big change in my life and I understood what I want to do in my life, which is acting. I want that the kind of love I received as Anand, this season's Anandi receives a lot of love as well. I am very nervous and excited as well because this is going to be a big task.

So far, how do you feel about the show, and how nostalgic does it get for you?

The promos made me remind my years because even we had similar promos, there have been lovely memories with the show for us, as well as the bonds, and we have received a lot of love from the makers, the industry, and even the fans. When I saw the first promo, I felt that Colors is doing a good job because they now have experience on how to deal with the subject, because it is a controversial topic. If people take it in the wrong way, a lot of drama can happen around it, but people take it positively. Season 1 also received a lot of love because we weren't promoting 'bal vivah' and we were just trying to tell them the consequences. I think the audience is really smart and if that was the case in 2008 then it has only gotten better. I expect a lot of nice things, and I feel that the impression that I have of the show, is going to be there forever.

Would you want to be a part of the show?

Yes, because one day, Anand is going to grow old right, so you never know.

Comparisons are always drawn when a cult show returns, what do you think is going to happen?

When Sasural Simar Ka 2 came, I was asked the same thing, and when I was asked if it is a big risk, I said yes, because it is true. It is not just TV shows, the same holds true for movies as well, irrespective of how big the makers and directors are, they have that challenge that they have to do justice to the show. I don't think of that as a negative aspect, but I take it positively because this kind of pressure should be there on anyone making such a huge show, and I am actually very proud of the writers and the channel as they took such a huge responsibility and brought such a huge show.

When will we see you on tv again?

Ask Colors (laughs), I have always done their shows, right from Balika Vadhu to Sasural Simar Ka, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Khatra Khatra Khatra, Laado 2, etc. You need to ask them this question.
