New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS) Over 950 visually challenged children listened with rapt attention to the dialogues of recently-released children's film 'Hari Puttar' as a radio station held a special audio screening here ahead of Children's Day Nov 14.
Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM launched their maiden Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative with the special show for blind children at the Siri Fort Auditorium in south Delhi.
'The visually impaired have as much right to entertainment, as the sighted do. We hope that what has started with 'Hari Puttar' will soon become the norm for all big banners and films, and we will be able to release audio films parallely with every big release.' said Riya Mukherjee, vice president (Brand Integration and CSR) at Radio Mirchi.
The initiative called 'Listen To My Movie' will now travel to 31 places after Delhi.
Children from different blind schools of the capital attended the event and they were absolutely overjoyed.
'I understood the whole movie all by myself and did not need anyone to explain it to me. It was a great experience,' said an excited Poonam, who came from the the blind school in Vikaspuri.
Said Ajanta, who belongs to the National Association for the Blind (NAB): 'I had an amazing time. I experienced something like this for the first time and I hope we get to attend more such events.'
Former Miss World Diana Hayden, who was present at the screening, said her association with the initiative has brought her closer to the visually impaired.
'I feel that the experience has brought me more close to the visually impaired. It's a different world altogether and you realise it when you get to share a part of their life,' Diana said.
Asked about the significance of celebrities supporting causes, she said: 'Audiences tend to take notice of things when a celebrity is associated with it. A well-known person is required to grab people's attention towards the cause. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It's all about giving an impetus to the cause.'
