Back in October 2021, Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested by the court in relation to the Mumbai cruise drugs investigation. On October 28, after several court hearings, much drama, and 26 days in detention, the Bombay High Court granted him bail. On October 30, he was released from prison, just in time for his father's birthday.
After all the drama affiliated with the case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) cleared Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan and five others in the drugs-on-cruise case on Friday.
After drugs were discovered on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai last year, the anti-drugs agency issued a 6,000-page chargesheet naming 14 suspects. Aryan Khan, who was detained after the raids, has not been named as a defendant.
"All the accused persons were found in possession of narcotics except Aryan and Mohak," read a statement by senior NCB officer Sanjay Kumar Singh. The agency could not find sufficient evidence against Aryan Khan and the five others, he said.
After being arrested in the drugs case that grabbed news headlines and inflamed social media, Aryan Khan spent more than three weeks in jail. According to the Narcotic Control Bureau, Aryan Khan was a regular drug user and supplier.
He and his lawyers vehemently rejected the charges, claiming that no drugs were discovered on him during the raid. Sameer Wankhede, the officer in charge of the investigation, was fired after charges that he was purposefully targeting Aryan Khan and even attempting to blackmail him. After errors and flaws in the investigation were discovered, the case was shifted from a Mumbai-based NCB team to a Delhi-based team.
