Arshad Warsi Disappointed with today's comedy movies; says, "It has become worse!"

Arshad Warsi, popularly known as ‘Circuit', owing to his famous character from the Munna Bhai series has undeniably carved a niche for himself in the film industry. With an experience of almost three decades now, the actor has left no stone unturned in impressing the audience with his entertaining persona and impeccable comic timing.

Arshad’s performances in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, Dhamaal amongst many more have led him to make his name in the top list of actors who can ace the comedy genre. He will be next seen in Anees Bazmee’s Pagalpanti, that stars John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samra, Kriti Kharbanda, Ileana D’cruz, and Urvashi Rautela. The Golmaal actor says that he loves working with an ensemble cast and states that as an audience if he is going to the theatre to watch such a film, he would love to see so many people for the same price.

Talking of the current state of comedy in Bollywood, Arshad says that Bollywood comedy writers often source material from the internet, and calls it sad, unoriginal, and  ‘chichori’.

“I am sorry to say this, but it has become worse. There are very few writers who write original comedy. Most of them source it straight from the internet, which is just sad. Besides, I feel comedy has become very ‘chichori’. That is another aspect which I wish wasn’t like that. You should write more intelligent comedy. I wish we had done better. Instead of working harder, we have become very convenient,” Arshad Warsi told Hindustan Times in an interview.

Arshad has worked in several popular movies throughout the course of his career, but mostly the films belong to the comedy genre. And on being asked if he gets nervous about being typecast, he reveals that nobody offers him anything apart from comedy.

“I have been here in the industry for a while now and I really don’t care about being typecast. I am going on and on and I won’t stop. It really doesn’t matter to me.”

The actor further added, “I think an actor should have a problem only if he/she doesn’t know how to act. If you know how to act, you should never worry about being typecast. As long as they are casting you it’s fine.

“Think of a person who is not good at comedy, but his first two movies are a hit by chance. He is the one who has to worry about getting typecast and think, ‘Mein toh Bruce Lee bannne aaya tha yeh kya hogaya, chuslee hogaya’. ”

Besides Pagalpanti, Arshad will be teaming up with Sanjay Dutt after six long years yet again with another comedy film, but it’s not a Munnabhai sequel! The two supreme actors will be collaborating for Sajid-Farhad’s film, wherein Sanju Baba will be seen playing the role of a blind don and Circuit aka Arshad Warsi will be his guiding light.
