India is currently battling the second wave of COVID-19 and people have been coming forward to do their bit to tackle the crisis.
Power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli have started a fundraiser to extend financial help for the people battling Covid-19. Initially, they aimed to raise a total amount of 7 crores, but now after receiving a massive donation of Rs. 5 crores, the couple has have increased their target for COVID-19 relief to Rs. 11 crore.
Several people and entrepreneurs came forward extensively to donate towards helping Indians battling the pandemic. On Wednesday, MPL Sports Foundation made a contribution of 5 crores to Virushka’s fundraiser.
Anushka took to Twitter to thank them for the massive contribution and shared that they have raised the target for Covid aid to 11 crores. She wrote in a tweet:
“Virat & I are thankful to MPL Sports Foundation for strengthening our efforts to help India fight the pandemic. Your donation of 5 crore empowers us to keep going and has allowed us to increase our goal to 11 crore.”
On Tuesday, Anushka and Virat had taken to their social media handle to share that they have raised Rs.5 Crores in five days. The couple had donated 2 crores of the total funds and shared a video message urging other people to do their bit by contributing to the fundraiser.
All the proceeds raised by the initiative will be directed to ACT Grants who is the implementation partner for this campaign. ACT has been extensively working towards providing oxygen, medical manpower, vaccination awareness and telemedicine facilities all through the pandemic and the amount raised by Anushka and Virat will aid their exemplary work.
