As the nation battles the second wave of the deadly Covid-19, Bollywood celebrities stepped forward to amplify resources and raise money to extend help to those fighting against the virus.
Few days ago, star couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli started a fundraiser to help provide medical amenities that are falling short due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
Initially, they aimed to raise a total amount of 7 crores, but after receiving massive donations from people and entrepreneurs, the couple raised the the target for Covid aid to 11 crores.
Virushka has surpassed the target of 11 crores for Covid aid and took to their social media to thank everyone for their contribution to their fundraiser. Anushka wrote in her post:
“Truly amazed and humbled by the spirit of solidarity that you all have shown. We are proud to announce that we have raised more than our initial target and it will go a long way to save lives. Thank you for your overwhelming support in helping the people of India. This wouldn't be possible without you. Jai Hind.”
Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli also penned a note:
“Words fall short to express how overwhelmed we feel to have exceeded our target not once, but twice, thanks to each one of you. To everyone who has donated, shared, and helped in any way, I want to say a big thank you. We are in this together, and we will overcome this together.”
On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra and husband Nick Jonas have also successfully raised one million dollars for Covid relief in India.
PeeCee announced the same in an Instagram post: “Through some of the darkest days in our history, humanity has once again proven that we are better together. @nickjonas and I are so humbled by your support and by the outpouring of help for India from so many parts of the world. Over 14,000 good Samaritans opened their hearts and helped us raise $1 Million in these trying times. Countless others helped us spread the world to expedite the process.”
“All the money raised is already being deployed across the country in the form of Oxygen Concentrators, Vaccine Support and so much more. We can all continue to help so let’s not stop here. We’re raising the fundraising target to $3 Million and we know that with your help and support, we can achieve this too,” she added.
