Another 'Planet of the Apes' Movie in The Works With 'Maze Runner' Director
Apes, based upon a French novel by Pierre Boule, has the premise of intelligent apes ruling over humans. The initial 1968 movie, starring Charlton Heston, told of an astronaut that lands on a planet where he finds an ape civilization acting as overlords over primitive men and women; in a twist, he discovers he is actually on Earth, which had suffered a great nuclear war.

The Apes are certainly not going anywhere anytime soon. Fox has bought on Wes Ball, who is best known for making the film, Maze Runner to directing the upcoming Apes film with the latest Planet of the Apes film coming in 2017 that was a critical and commercial success.

The movie was a commercial and critical hit and spawned numerous sequels and a TV series through the 1970s. It’s a title that Fox returned to several times. It is unclear whether the new Apes project is meant to be a new reboot or an extension of the previous film series.
