New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo talked about his “heavy burden” and guilt over what more he could have done to stem the pandemic in the state in an interview clip from tonight’s sit-down with The Daily Social Distancing Show’s Trevor Noah.

Cuomo is leading over New York City, which many consider the epicentre of the pandemic in the US, and has been embroiled in controversies over ventilators, testing, and reopening the economy in his state. He is currently warning that the state should not rush ahead to reopen, although the incidents of new cases in the disease appear to be trending down.

It comes after Cuomo revealed earlier today that the COVID-19 outbreak has infected more than 258,500 people across the state of New York, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Yesterday, the governor said that President Donald Trump had committed to working together to double the rate of New York’s coronavirus testing.

Noah has been particularly critical of President Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic crisis.

In the first clip released, Noah asked a Meghan Markle-Esque question on how Cuomo himself is doing in the crisis.

Cuomo said he saw his role as a communicator. “It is personal. I try to communicate how I communicate personally, and my fear and my anxiety. The once differentiation is I have to deal with the number of deaths in the state.”

He talked about 9-11 deaths compared to the current and much larger pandemic death toll, adding “I believe we did everything that could possibly be done.”

His brother, Chris Cuomo, was also suffering from the virus which was contracted by Chris' wife and according to the recent reports, also his son.

Cuomo is the latest high-profile guest to speak with Noah during the pandemic; the stand-up comedian was the first late-night host to talk to Dr Anthony Fauci at the start of the outbreak and he has also spoken to the likes of California Governor Gavin Newsom and Bill Gates.

Earlier this week, The Daily Show showrunner and exec producer Jen Flanz said that her team “was built for this in some ways because we are so flexible and we can shift gears really fast”.

She added that they made a conscious effort to speak to politicians and experts during the pandemic. “We’re a lot less of a celebrity stop and much more about information. It’s a fun informative interview. Even when we interview celebrities, we always ask, is there a cause that you care to discuss, even when they’re coming on to promote a movie, so it wasn’t that hard for us to make the shift. The Daily Show has always been a stop for politicians. We wanted to make sure that viewers were being informed.”

For the unversed, the communist Chinese government is utilizing video from comedian Trevor Noah to bash President Donald Trump in their propaganda.

Among the propaganda tools used in China to mislead their citizens is a video of Noah from "The Daily Show" giving a scathing criticism of the response to the pandemic by Trump.

"The website of Global Times, a tabloid controlled by the Communist Party, added Chinese subtitles to a video from Mr Noah's show that featured President Trump and many Fox News personalities, showing how for weeks they played down the risks of the coronavirus," said Li Yuan, the New York Times' Asia tech columnist.
