Bollywood’s beloved couple, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have completed 47 glorious years of togetherness, and as they celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Big B has shared some unseen pictures from his wedding ceremony with wife Jaya.
Amitabh and Jaya featured together in iconic movies like Silsila, Abhiman, Chupke Chupke, Mili and more. The couple tied the knot in 1973, however, the story behind their wedding is quite interesting. Big B wanted to visit London to celebrate the success of their film Zanjeer, and when his father Harivanshrai Bachchan came to know that his son was going on the trip with Jaya, he asked him to marry her. And, that’s how the couple tied the knot.
Sharing a special story behind his marriage, Amitabh wrote on Instagram, “47 years .. today .. June 3, 1973 .. !! Had decided if Zanjeer would succeed, we would along with a few friends go to London for the first time .. My Father asked who you going with ? When i told him who , he said you must marry her before you go .. else you don’t go .. So .. I obeyed .. !!”

After their wedding, Big B and Jaya Bachchan co-starred in films such as Abhimaan (1973), Chupke Chupke (1975), Mili (1975), Sholay (1975), and Silsila (1981) to name a few. However, after the birth of her daughter Shweta in 1974 and son Abhishek in 1976, Jaya Bachchan took a sabbatical from films.
Later, B and Jaya appeared together in movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
