Raazi was one of the films that forced the audience to applaud Alia Bhatt for her performance. The young and talented actress proved herself with Meghna Gulzar’s directorial. However, Alia failed to grab a National Award for the same and Harinder Sikka, the author of Calling Sehmat claims that the director is to be blamed for being Alia’s barricade to win an honorary award.

He claimed that Raazi couldn’t bag a national award all thanks to Meghna Gulzar. Insisting that the director shouldn’t have edited a crucial sequence from the film, a ‘tricolour scene’ that cost Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi the national award.

For the unversed, Raazi revolves around the character of Sehmat (Alia Bhatt) an Indian girl who ties the knot with a Pakistani officer to spy for her home country.

The author ended his book with the protagonist saluting the tricolour.

During a media interaction, SpotboyE quoted Harinder saying,

In the book, the story ends with Sehmat saluting the tricolour. If the film had the same ending, the film would have won the National Award. I told the director that you have stopped the film from getting National Award by cutting the tricolour scene in the film. Though this was done by the wishes of the filmmakers, but I still have a resentment over it.

- Harinder Sikka

Even though, the critically acclaimed film did not grab a national award it definitely bag a number of awards Filmfare which included - Filmfare Best Film Award. Apart from that  Meghna Gulzar was also adjudged as the best director at the same awards show. The film also conferred with several awards at IIFA awards for Best Film and Best Actress award for Alia Bhatt.
