A new wave of coronavirus has finally knocked on the doors of the Indian subcontinent which has now sparked the rise of Covid-19 cases amongst audience and celebrities as well. While the government is trying its best to curb the spread of this deadly virus, the makers of Sooryavanshi have once again decided to push the release.
During the initial announcement of Rohit Shetty’s cops universe, it was reported that the film would release on 24 March 2020. But, considering the issues that arose in a span of last one year, the film has constantly seen a delay in its release.
The film is being directed by Rohit Shetty and stars Akshay Kumar as the male lead. It could have been the first Big-Bollywood film to hit theatres post-pandemic and was believed to attract the audience, considering the star cast of the film.
Now, a recent Bollywood Hungama report quoted a source informed about the film being pushed ahead and mentioned that Sooryavanshi won’t be releasing on April 2.
“The makers of Sooryavanshi, including Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty, have jointly decided that the film should not release on April 2. The cases are increasing not just in Maharashtra now but also in other places of India. Sooryavanshi is a big-budget film and it won’t be feasible to release at a time when night curfew will be imposed in certain parts of the country,” said the source.
The source further mentioned the central government’s plan to allow 100% occupancy in cinemas, but it seems that won’t be happening considering the current situation.
The source added, “Also, with the Central government allowing 100% occupancy in cinemas from February 1, everyone had hoped that by April 2, governments of all major states would also give the nod for full occupancy in theatres. But now it’s clear that it won’t happen in the near future. So it doesn’t make sense to bring the film in such a tense period.”
The Bollywood Hungama report quoted the source speaking about the new release date of Sooryavanshi and said, “There’s a meeting happening today in the afternoon of all the stakeholders. A decision on the new date is expected to be taken at this discussion.”
Earlier, it was reported that Rohit Shetty’s much-anticipated film, Sooryavanshi, was to have a theatrical release on April 2, 2021. However, the unprecedented spike in coronavirus cases, and night curfew being clamped down on parts of Maharashtra, the release has again been postponed.
The highly-anticipated action film also features Katrina Kaif as the female lead and marks the reunion of Kat with Akki after nine years. The film also stars Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn in a cameo role.
