Due to the lockdown imposed to control the spread of the novel Coronavirus, movie theatres are closed and many big banner films have been postponed from their original date.
A barrage of films are waiting for release after the lockdown is lifted and in such a scenario, it will be difficult for filmmakers to accommodate all films for a theatrical release. In case the cinema halls and theatres do not open by June, many films will have to be shifted for a direct digital release.
After Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's Gulabo Sitabo and Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi announced their digital release, the latest one to join the bandwagon is Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb.
Reportedly, Laxmmi Bomb will now premiere on Hotstar. "It's true that the film will now be premiering on Hot Star. Although there was a bit of disagreement initially, everyone is on the same page now. The movie will indeed be releasing online” Pinkvilla quoted a trade source as saying.
But well, what’s interesting is that the makers have sold the film for a record-breaking price that will leave your minds boggling. The comedy horror film has been sold for a whopping amount of Rs 125 crores.
The source adds: "Usually digital rights of a big film get sold at record prices of Rs 60-70 crore max. But since this film won't have a theatrical release and will be straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price. Laxmmi Bomb has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crore at the box office, despite a clash with Salman Khan's Radhe. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less."
Speaking of Laxmmi Bomb, the film is written and directed by Raghava Lawrence in his Hindi directorial debut. It is a remake of the Tamil movie Muni 2: Kanchana and stars Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in lead roles.
