Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj Sold to Hotstar for a Mind Boggling Amount; Details below

Due to the lockdown imposed to control the spread of the novel Coronavirus, movie theatres are closed and many big banner films have been postponed from their original date.

A barrage of films are waiting for release after the lockdown is lifted and in such a scenario, it will be difficult for filmmakers to accommodate all films for a theatrical release. In case the cinema halls and theatres do not open by June, many films will have to be shifted for a direct digital release.

Seven big banner films: Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn's Bhuj: The Pride of India, Alia Bhatt-Sanjay Dutt-Aditya Roy Kapur’s Sadak 2, Sushant Singh Rajput's Dil Bechara, Abhishek Bachchan's Big Bull, Kunal Khemmu's Lootcase and Vidyut Jammwal's Khuda Haafiz will now release directly on Disney+Hotstar.

Earlier it was reported that the makers of Laxmmi Bomb have sold the film for a record-breaking price of Rs 125 crores, making it the highest-earning film to release on the OTT platforms. And now, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj has joined the bandwagon and sold for a terrific amount to Hotstar.

“Ajay along with producers Bhushan Kumar, Vajir Singh and others cracked a solid deal with Hotstar for Bhuj. The film has been sold online for a whopping Rs 112 crore. That also makes it the second highest-earning film to release on OTT platforms this year so far” reports Pinkvilla.

With the film being sold for Rs 112 crore already, the makers have cracked a golden deal as a trade analyst comments: 

"If the film had a theatrical release, it had prospects to earn a little more for the producers for sure, but given the situation, this is a great deal they have inked. They would have got much lesser for their digital rights if it had released in the theatres."

Directed, co-produced and written by Abhishek Dudhaiya, Bhuj: The Pride of India is an action drama film about the life of IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, the then in-charge of the Bhuj airport who and his team reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of 300 local women. While the film features Ajay Devgn as Karnik, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar, Ammy Virk and Pranitha Subhash will be seen in pivotal roles.
