Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan to get a Theater Release, confirms Boney Kapoor

Filmmakers and producers can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Maharashtra Government has granted permission to Shooting of films, television serials and digital series in non-containment zones in Maharashtra in the latest phase of the lockdown with certain conditions.

While several films headed for OTT releases the Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Maidaan’ was said to be one of the films to go digital. However, now producer Boney Kapoor has now confirmed that it will get a theater release.

A Times of India report quoted him saying that OTT platforms and theatres can co-exist amid the changing times. While saying that there are some producers who don’t mind the long wait for a theatrical release, he said that digital platforms help those who have their films ready and may not be in a position to wait to recover financial investments.

While addressing the reservations of distributors to digital releases, Kapoor said that they should view the situation in a practical way.

The film is expected to go on floors in November.

For the uninitiated, Maidaan is a sports-drama dedicated to the golden years of Indian football. Ajay will be seen essaying the role of the legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is widely known as the founding father of Indian football. The film is helmed by Badhai Ho filmmaker Amit Ravindrenath Sharma which also features Gajraj Rao and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

Earlier, the state government extended the lockdown in containment zones till June 30 and eased restrictions and phase-wise resumption of activities in non-containment regions under the 'Mission Begin Again'.
