After Throwing Blunt Remarks at David Dhawan, Govinda Breaks Silence on Varun-Sara’s Coolie No 1 Remake

A few months ago, Govinda had expressed his unfiltered views about David Dhawan and their bad-looking relationship. The two made up for a magical team and had collaborated for 17 superhit films like Partner, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Shola Aur Shabnam, to name a few.

Govinda had made blunt remarks against David and had told Rajat Sharma on his show Aap Ki Adalat: “After I left politics, I told my secretary to keep the phone speaker on so that I could listen what he (David Dhawan) was saying. I heard David saying, Chi-Chi (Govinda’s nickname) is questioning a lot. He was telling my secretary, I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles. This shocked me and I decided never to work with him. After 4-5 months, I again rang him up just to find out if he would give me a guest appearance in his film. He then never rang me back. I am revealing this in public after so many years. I think he is under somebody’s influence. I do not think he is that same David Dhawan whom I used to know.”

Govinda had added, “I do not think his son will ever do 17 films with him, because he is, after all, David Dhawan’s son. He is educated. I never realized the meaning of doing 17 films with a director. It was Sanjay Dutt who told me to give work to a fellow Punjabi (David Dhawan). I used to give work to fellow Punjabis at that time. I liked David and did many hit films with him. I did not even treat my relatives so well as I treated him. Even with my brother, who is a director, I did not do 17 films.”

And, recently the actor broke his silence over David’s son Varun Dhawan starring in the remake of his 1995 classic film Coolie No. 1. The remake of the comedy-drama is being helmed by David yet again and also stars Sara Ali Khan as the film’s leading lady. 

Finally reacting to the news of Coolie No.1 reboot, Govinda stated that that remakes of all good films are being made, and he also wished  ‘all the best’ to Varun.

Varun has been a long time admirer of Govinda, reacting to which the actor said, “We used to do that too when we were young. I go on tours and I’m told all the time that such a young star says he wants to be like me.”

Well, it seems like Govinda has let his bitterness with David aside, as he extended his good wishes for the team of Coolie No.1. Speaking of the hit films’ remake, the film stars Varun, Sara and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. The comedy-drama is slated to hit the theatres on 1 May 2020.
