Apart from the hardcore fans of the Karate Kid franchise, not many would have expected much out of the show, Cobra Kai that was launched last year. Several odds were against it, first of them was its launch on a new platform aka Youtube Red or Youtube Premium and apart from the first couple of episodes, the following ones required subscription fees.

Plus, this seemed like a tried-and-tested formula about how a particularly successful film is either rebooted or continued a generation later; and how it flopped miserably too. But none of that was a worry for Cobra Kai as the show was an instant success not only with the fans but also with the critics. With over 56 million views on the first episode, Cobra Kai turned out to be a massive success that continued with Season 2.

And now, news is coming in that the show has been renewed for a third season too. Yes! That's right. But the bigger news in the same bracket is that the shows on Youtube Red will be available for free. According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, the streaming service announced  on Thursday that not only will the half-hour martial arts dramedy be back for a third season in 2020, it will no longer require a paid subscription to watch.

Beginning this fall, all YouTube original programming will be available for free — with ads, of course. Season 2 of Cobra Kai will begin streaming for free starting Sept. 11, with one episode dropping each week. Season 1, however, will only be free for two weeks from Aug. 29 to Sept. 11.
