Actress Priya Bapat opens up on her digital debut 'City of Dreams'!

The advent of internet has surely changed the way we live. Digital has challenged the legacy of traditional media and how. Taking into consideration of the changing landscape, more and more content creators are moving to the digital space and many mainstream actors are proving their mettle on the web. Actress, Priya Bapat who is popular for Happy Journey, Kaksparsh, Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S to name a few, recently debuted on digital platform with Hotstar's 'City of Dreams'.

City of Dreams is a political family drama with various twists and turns in a race to gain power. We contacted Priya to know about her new venture and she expressed, "City of Dreams is definitely an unusual story, it's a political drama, a brother-sister war for the throne and the journey of women who is a housewife, a sister and a daughter. She is very ambitious, poised, and always been told by her father what to do and what not to. She certainly knows what values her father stands for and how conservative he is when it comes to women."

Adds Bapat, "He is very clear about the fact that a woman should always be a housewife and control the house. She could be educated, do everything else but should not be in politics. She should not be in fore front when it comes to politics. There comes the time where there is a twist  and her journey starts in the pursuit of her dreams. Whether she successfully pursues her dream or not is the journey that you will find out in City of Dreams."

Speaking about her experience with this project, she says, "It was lovely to work with Nagesh Kukunoor Sir because he is an amazing director who actually guides you on the path to be right every time in a scene. Since it's my first web series, I was very happy when I got to know that I will be a part of it. In the series, I will be playing Poornima Gaikwad."

It is argued that the digital content is becoming bolder and sometimes has unnecessary violence and abuse. City of Dreams too has some sparks of bold content, on which the actor says, "I always feel that it is never added for the sake of doing it. It is a choice of the director and writer to narrate and tell their story as long as it's not forceful and deliberate. I think if the director wishes to tell his story in that way then it's fine. Also, I feel it is about characters. If we have 'mavali' (ruffian) character then obviously the character will speak in that language, he will never speak very politely. So to make your character more true to the real life you tend to do that instead of making it just a fancy filmy part."

Concludingly she says, "I think you tend to make the content more real and easy on how everyday lives are and hence the language and intimacy in the scene are usually a part of it. I don't think there is any issue with any kind of intimate and abusive content as long as it doesn't hurt anybody's sentiments and feelings".
