The killing of a black man, George Floyd by a white policeman in the United States invited mass protests and destruction across the state. A revolution ‘Black Lives Matter’ went viral on the Internet, and many Bollywood celebrities like Karan Johar, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan and others took to their social media to tweet in support of the foreign revolution.

Actor Abhay Deol is upset with the ‘woke Indian celebs’ reacting to the racism in America but keeping mum over the same incidents happening in their own country and homeland. He put out a handwritten note that read: “Migrant lives matter, poor lives matter, minority lives matter” on his social media along with a detailed note.

Abhay’s note reads: “Maybe it’s time for these now? Now that ‘woke’ Indian celebrities and the middle class stand in solidarity with fighting systemic racism in America, perhaps they’d see how it manifests in their own backyard? America has exported violence to the world, they have made it a more dangerous place, it was but inevitable that it would come back karmically. I’m not saying they deserve it, I’m saying look at the picture in its totality.”

He continued: “I’m saying support them by calling out the systemic problems in your own country because they turn out to be one and the same thing. I’m saying follow their lead but not their actions. Create your own actions, your own movement, relevant to your own country. That is what the #blacklivesmatter movement is all about! In the larger picture, there is no “us” and “them”. There is not a country that’s real. But a planet in peril. #migrantlivesmatter #minoritylivesmatter #poorlivesmatter #blacklivesmatter.”

In a recent interview, actress Kangana Ranaut also questioned the silence of Bollywood celebrities over the lynching of Sadhus, that took place in Palghar, a few weeks ago. She said that “Perhaps, it is because of their pre-independence colonial slavery genes" and also added that “Sadhus or tribal people aren’t fancy enough for the Bollywood crowd or their followers.”
