Aanand L Rai marks 8 years of Raanjhanaa on Day 1 of Rakshabandhan: “Brave enough to tell the stories”

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai is celebrating the completion of 8-years of a film extremely close to his heart - Raanjhanaa. The film starred Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Abhay Deol.

And what better way to celebrate his film and the auspicious date than by starting his next - Raksha Bandhan on the same date. With love being focal to both the films, June 21 also denotes a special connection for the director, marking the release for one film 8 years ago and the start of another today. 

Elaborating on the same, Aanand L Rai says in a statement shared with us:

“21st June means a lot to me. This day made me courageous! Brave enough to tell the stories which I believed in. 8-years back on the same day Raanjhanaa released, and today, I started shooting for Rakshabandhan! May Mahadev grace this story the way he did Raanjhanaa!”

Giving audiences films that are unique yet so relatable and realistic, Aanand L Rai can proudly reminisce the time in between that marks these two iconic films.

Earlier this month, the makers of Rakshabandhan welcomed actress Bhumi Pednekar as the leading lady.

Raksha Bandhan marks Akshay Kumar’s second collaboration with Aanand L Rai after Atrangi Re that stars Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush.  Makers are yet to announce the release date of Atrangi Re.
