197 films to be screened at 17th film festival of Kerala

As many as 197 films from various parts of the globe will be screened at the 17th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala, starting here Dec 7.

As many as 197 films from various parts of the globe will be screened at the 17th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala, starting here Dec 7.

At the eight-day festival, 14 films from Asia, Africa and Latin American countries will vie for the coveted Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant).

The Indian representation in this category are director Nitin Kakkar's "Filimistaan", Kamal's "ID", TV Chandran's "Inheritors of the Earth" and Joy Mathew's "Shutter".

In the world cinema section, 78 films of popular directors will be screened. One of the main attractions of the category is "18 Days", a joint venture of nine directors who narrates Egyptian people's revolution that lasted for 18 days.

Seven films of legendary Malayalam actor Sathyan, whose birth centenary was celebrated recently, will be screened at the fest.

In the Retrospective section, five films of Australian filmmaker Paul Cox will be shown.

The Indian Cinema Now category will have seven films - "The Crowning Wish" by Rituparno Ghosh; "Cosmic Sex" by Amitabh Chakraborty; "The Script" by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar; "Wave of Silence" by Jahnu Barua; "The Crier" by M. Adehyaprata Rajan; "Tears of Nandigram" by Sarfaraz Alam and Kushik Ganguly's "Sound".

Malayalam Cinema Today will also have seven feature films - "Indian Rupee", "A Document of Separation", "In Recent Times", "Chayilliam", "Color of Sky", "Ithramathram" and "Friday".

There will be films of Thilakan, Appachan, T. Damodaran, Jose Prakash, Padmakumar, Ashok Mehta and Kris Marker in the homage section.
