Prerna nervously knocked the door of his study.

After an affirmative reply, she stepped in.

She slowly walked in, framing and re framing her questions and perhaps, requests. Her heart was beating loudly and those awkward rumbles in her 8 month pregnant belly didn't help either.

"Mr. Bajaj... Woh umm, aap... aapki flight kab ki hai?", she asked, biting her lip. She mentally slapped herself.

He gave her a queer look through the corner of his eye. She moved her gaze away.

"I've told you this thrice already", he remarked.

"2 am midnight"

Prerna felt the sudden surge to blurt out everything in one go. Yes, there were mood swings. But he was beyond them. She clasped her saree and took a deep breath.

She was finding reasons to atleast stay back in the room so that she wouldn't receive the get out order within 30 seconds.

She saw an antique radio placed on one of the shelves.

She scuttled across to have a look.

She pressed the ON button to see if it works.

He did feel annoyed but to indefinitely postpone the topic in hand, he allowed her to meddle with his beloved artifacts, with a low grunt.

The old piece rattled to life with a hiss.

Ruk jaana oh jaana...

Her heart skipped a bit. What a perfect timing!

She turned around to have a quick glance at him.

He was still busy checking the file and paperwork.

Ruk jaana oh jaana humse do baatein

Karke chali jaana, yeh mausam hai deewana...

She coughed a bit to grab attention and started humming it herself.

He gave no reaction whatsoever. Bass, she couldn't stoop further. He knew what she wanted, yet didn't want to talk about it.

Dejected, she stormed off.

It was nearing 11pm.

She heard a knock on her door.

Excited, she got up quickly and opened it.

"I've told you not to run around", he said gravely.

She made a face. Rules and rules.

"I've appointed a doctor for your delivery. She'll be here 24*7 with you".

She looked at her bump.

"It is very important merger", he said.

She escorted him to the car.

"Nothing to worry about", he repeated, seeing her engulfed in doubt.

She nodded. The car drove off, into the darkness.

Her face fell down. Of course yes, the doctor would be the best and there is nothing to worry but his presence certainly couldn't be filled by a doctor. She wanted him around, in person.

"Please mat jayiye naa", she finally said, as the dust swirled on the road.

After 72 Hours

Prerna was gasping for breath. An unexplained tearing pain had seized her body. Sweat engulfed her forehead and temple.

She couldn't understand if she was crying out of physical pain or the gloomy fear of uncertainty. All she wanted was to be assured and told that everything will be okay. The waiting area near her specially equipped room was absolutely empty, and that had hurt more than anything. Her recent decisions surely weren't in the favour of her emotions but where had she gone so wrong in life that she had no one by her side? NO ONE.

Amidst the chaos, she could hear the gynaecologists whispering about the complications. Had she become delirious?

She remembered the time spent with Veena. She badly wanted to see her Family.

She was all okay until this afternoon, when a sudden pang hit her stomach and she was in constant, humongous pain ever since. It had been around 5-6 hours till now, submerged in agony.

Suddenly, there was a hush and the room felt silent. In the swinging conciousness, she could feel the coldness. His presence. He was around.

A large hand took her soft, sweaty ones into its shadow and existence. She smiled, in those surging cramps. He was here. A sudden relief swept through her body. Now there was no fear, she knew her child was in safe, strong hands even if she would die.

There was a strange sense of happiness. Mr. Bajaj was back, earlier than expected. He maybe left the deal midway for her. And her baby.

Smilingly, she closed her eyes, and felt the pain subsiding.

He stood at the door, observing the two, keenly.

Weakly, she could see him fixed at that spot since more than an hour. Finally, she hinted him to come in and see the smallest and the most beautiful cotton ball ever. It was a girl.

He walked in. She signalled him to pick her up, giving her consent.

She could feel the warmth now, instead of the coldness, a thing she had never felt in all these months. A lone tear brimmed in the corner of his eye.

She smiled and noticed it. He noticed her smile.

He put the child back in the cradle and told the attendant glaringly, "Care to use a little less of bleach in the cleaning?"

She laughed off to herself about this hard coconut who today, failed to accept it's own sweet water.
